Ashwin Shukla Saptami today: Phulpati brought into homes for Dashain (Photos)

Kathmandu. Flower arrangements were brought to the Nava Durga shrine set up in the puja room and Dashain house this afternoon on the seventh day of Ashwin Shukla Saptami.

The Phulpati festival, which is celebrated every year on the seventh day of Ashwin Shukla Saptami under the Durga Paksha, is being celebrated today in every household according to the classical method by bringing Phulpati, a symbol of the auspicious season, into the house.

From the day of Ghatasthapana, Durga is worshipped according to Vedic rituals and sugarcane, haledo, banana plants, rice ears, bel leaves, pomegranates, Jayanti, Ashoka flowers, and manavriksha are brought into the Dashain house or worship room as symbols of auspiciousness.

According to religious scholar Prof. Toyaraj Nepal, there is a Vedic tradition of worshipping the flower petals, also known as Navapatrika, as a symbol of the goddess Navavati and worshipping Shakti according to classical methods.

It is believed in the scriptures that the role of the supporting goddess is to strengthen the goddess. After bringing in the flower petals, all nine goddesses are worshipped in a ritualistic manner.

Prof. Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, Chairman of the Nepal Panchanga Nirikhaya Development Committee, said that a website is not required to import Phulpati.
