Lions Club of Mississauga Canada Nepal organizes blood donation program and charter night (with photos)
Shishir Simkhada,Toronto. A blood donation program and charter night organized by the Lions Club of Mississauga, Canada Nepal, concluded on Saturday.
Twelve blood donors donated blood in the blood donation program organized by the club. The blood donation program was co-ordinated by Amrit Chhetri, Youth Program Chairperson of Lions Club of Mississauga Canada Nepal and Board of Directors of Nepal Blood Donors Association, under the coordination of the program, focusing on the main theme of “Blood Donation – Life Donation”, at the Blood Donation Center Mississauga. On that occasion, Ghanashyam Bhattarai, Sunil Adhikari, Damodar Poudel, Rishi Pokhrel, Ramesh Dhital, Dhruba Bhattarai, Tulsi Karki, Anil Gyawali, Ramesh Bhattarai, Ramhari Koirala, Jaya Prakash Bist, TP Sapkota donated blood.
Club’s Charter Night program concluded
Lions Club of Mississauga Canada Nepal celebrated its historic Charter Night with unity and friendship. The club, which was started by 28 Nepali youth under the leadership of Charter President Ghanshyam Bhattarai, was formally established and inaugurated. The chief guest of the program, District Governor of Lions Club International District A711, Abdullah Gamandhi, handed over the club’s official charter certificate, presented the pin and administered the oath.
In the program Lions Club International District A 711 Senior Vice President Lion Verona Payne, Second Vice District Governor Phoebe Kagumba, Past District Governor Dan Sibanda, Zone A6 Chairperson Shaminda Perera, and Past Multiple Council Chairperson Ann Stevens presented their greetings speech for the program.
At the formal opening of the program, all participants in the program observed a minute of silence and paid tribute by lighting candles in memory of the Nepali brothers and sisters who lost their lives during the recent protests in Nepal.
The program featured the playing of the national anthems of Nepal and Canada, with everyone present standing in respect, symbolically showcasing the cultural ties between the two countries embraced by the club.
In his welcome speech, Charter President Bhattarai stated that the establishment of the club aims to strengthen community service, promote unity, and contribute to local and global humanitarian work.
The program, hosted by club secretary Dhrubamani Poudel, who introduced all club members and guests.
Some distinguished guests also addressed the gathering and conveyed their greetings to the club. Among them were Aash Adhikari, President of the sponsor club Mississauga Cooksville; Prajapati Sapkota, Senior Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA); Dr. Tulsi Dharel, President of the Canadian Multicultural Council; Parbati Pandey, President of the Nepali Nursing Association Canada; and Madan Chhetri, businessman and social worker.
The highlight of the program was the Charter Certificate Presentation Ceremony, where District Governor Lion Gamandhi formally presented the certificates to Charter President Ghanshyam Bhattarai and the charter members, recognizing the club as a member of Lions Clubs International. This was followed by the oath-taking ceremony of the charter officers and members, where Governor Gamandhi formally inducted the new members into the Lions family.
Chief guest Governor Gamandhi praised the commitment of the Nepali-Canadian community and emphasized the importance of service work through the global platform of Lions Clubs International.
