Toronto, Canada on Sunday, Up to 40 centimetres of snow expected:  Weather Canada issues winter warning

Toronto: Up to 40 centimetres of snow is expected in the Toronto area of Canada on Sunday, and a winter weather warning has been issued by Weather Canada.
A severe weather warning, an orange winter storm warning, has been issued for Toronto and all of southern Ontario ahead of the next bout of winter weather on Sunday.

Environment Canada has also said that 20 to 40 centimetres of snow is expected in some areas, and that visibility will be close to zero at times, with winds gusting to 50 kilometres per hour, making travel hazardous.

It said an orange warning has been issued as adverse weather conditions are likely to cause dangerous conditions and disruptions.

Areas near the lakeshore, including the city of Toronto, are expected to see the heaviest snowfall as winds blowing off the lake will create a “snow snake” that will increase the total snowfall totals. With temperatures remaining extremely cold, Sunday’s light, fluffy snow will easily blow around, reducing visibility and making travel difficult.

“Ice from easterly winds over Lake Ontario will develop Sunday morning, resulting in locally heavy snowfall and reduced visibility,” Environment Canada said.

“By Sunday afternoon, snow will be widespread as a large system moves into the area, with the potential for lake levels to increase, leading to locally higher snowfall amounts in some areas.”

It is said that this effect may continue until Monday morning.

Similar orange warnings have also been issued in Ontario’s Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham, Burlington, Oakville, Pickering and Oshawa.

However, the above-mentioned locations are not included in the main areas of heavy snowfall issued by Weather Canada.
