World powers interested in US peace plan: Iran and Syria also discussed in Putin-Netanyahu talks
Agency. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation on Monday. According to the Kremlin (Russian President’s Office), they discussed the US-proposed plan to stop the Gaza war.
During the talks, President Putin reiterated Russia’s long-standing and consistent position on the Palestinian issue. Russia has always been in favor of a comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on international law. This means that Russia is in favor of a separate state for the Palestinians.
The two leaders also discussed regional issues other than the Gaza peace plan. They also expressed concern about Iran’s nuclear program and the situation in Syria.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Netanyahu also extended “warm greetings” to President Putin, who is celebrating his 73rd birthday tomorrow, Tuesday.
Earlier, indirect talks between representatives of Israel and Hamas on the US peace plan have begun in Egypt.
