Kathmandu. Singer and stage performer Durgesh Thapa, who arrived in the UK for a musical performance before Dashain, is currently on a musical tour of America. Durgesh, who flew to America on the eve of Tihar, will give musical performances in 11 cities in America.

His journey, which began last Friday in Austin, Texas, will end in Dallas on November 22. ‘I am performing in New York City this Saturday,’ said singer Thapa. ‘I am very excited, I have the opportunity to meet Nepalis living in America in the spirit of Tihar.’

This is his first trip to America. During the one and a half month trip, Thapa will perform in cities including New York, Baltimore, Columbus, Virginia, Colorado, and more. His presence at music events in the country and abroad has increased since last year.

Singer Thapa says that the success of the song ‘Dushman Hereko Heryai’, released last December, has given a new twist to his musical ‘career’. The song has been viewed more than 130 million times on YouTube so far. The song topped YouTube trends and even entered global trends.

Singer Thapa, who was emotional and happy with the success of the song, said at the time, “This honor given by the divine audience and listeners is not just the number of views, it is the moment when a dream comes true.”

Along with Thapa, singer Anand Karki, singer Samiksha Adhikari and Alina Chauhan also feature in ‘Dushman Hereko Herai’. Thapa has composed the song with his own lyrics, music and musical arrangement. The music video of the song features Thapa along with artists Priyanka Karki, Kavita Nepali, Pema Lama and others.

Thapa said that the song has become like his brand song. ‘This will remain a standard song of my career,’ he said. Thapa’s latest song ‘Jaane Bhaye Jammaya’ is also a popular song.

The success of the song ‘Dushman Heraiko Hera’ has given me an extra boost, I feel like I have gained new energy from it,’ said singer Thapa. ‘Although there are demands for programs in some places, I am not able to give time due to my busy schedule.’

He said that after the US, a concert tour to Canada and Europe is being planned. He said that he will be busy with most of the events abroad this year.

Recently, his demand for music programs and fairs and festivals in the country and abroad has increased. Last year, he had difficulty reaching the festival in the winter. In Falgun last year alone, singer Thapa had performed in more than 32 places across the country. ‘I cannot always stay in this place, another talent will come to take my place,’ he said, ‘But, I am where I am today because of my own hard work and deeds.’

Thapa, who has sung in hundreds of songs and acted in music videos, is famous for many songs, including ‘Hami Pani Nachacha Beech Beechma’. Thapa has also given voice and music to film songs in recent times. He has acted in music videos for songs including modern, folk, and pop.

‘Dandai Bisauni’, ‘Joonle Maart Dekhcha’, ‘Haasn Sikayun’ are some of the famous folk songs he has sung. Thapa, who first sang a promotional song in Deepak/Deepa’s film ‘Chha Maya Chhapakkai’, also became famous with the song ‘Uther Nachisyo’ sung in the film ‘Hraswo Dirgha’. He also composed the music and lyrics for the song ‘Chha Bhane Maya Hai Bhon’ from the film ‘Rangi’.

Singer Anand Karki and singer Suraksha KC have given their voices to the song. Thapa wants to introduce himself more as a stage ‘performer’ than a singer. He worked as a dancer in restaurants and bars in the early days of his career and is now proficient in acting and music.

Thapa, who has been in the news and controversy for some of his creations in the past, said that he has been moving forward with self-reflection lately. Having experienced sweet and sour moments in his 19 years of creative work, he is now more popular among the youth and teenagers.

Thapa first danced and acted in the music video of singer Bimal Dandi’s Dashain song in 2065 BS. Thapa sang his first folk song ‘Andherima Jun Laeko Ho’ along with Purnakala BC.

Thapa, a native of Galkot Municipality-7, Baglung, had a dream when he entered Kathmandu in 2063 BS, to become a model. Over time, he moved from acting to singing. Thapa, who first entered the capital with singer and producer Basant Thapa, had to struggle in an unfamiliar city. Thapa has not been without many obstacles in a dream city like Kathmandu. He has been on his way to righteousness by overcoming obstacles.

“I first came to Kathmandu with my respected brother, a leading artist, Basant Thapa. He is the one who inspired me in art,” said Durgesh. “I respect him as a mentor and a mentor in the field of art.”
