The entrance fee to the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, has increased
Kathmandu. Fees have been increased for foreign tourists entering the Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality area. The rural municipality has increased the fee for foreign tourists in this area, which also has the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
The rural municipality has written to the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAN) and informed about the fee increase. According to the increased fee, tourists coming from SAARC countries and China will have to pay Rs 2,000. Similarly, other foreign nationals have to pay a fee of three thousand rupees.
According to the rural municipality, free entry will be given to diplomatic special persons and children under 10 years of age based on documents. Previously, a fee of Rs 2,000 was charged for four weeks and Rs 2,000 for more than four weeks.
Apart from this, the tourists going there also have to pay an entry fee of Rs 3,000 per person to Everest National Park. Krishna Dahal, senior vice president of TAN, said that the rural municipality has informed about the increase in the entry fee for tourists. “The village council has also sent a letter to Tan to inform him that the fee has been increased,” he said, “According to the decision of the village council, this fee has been fixed for the financial year 2081/082.” Tan has also informed its member organizations about this.’
The vice president of the village, Tasi Lhamu Sherpa, said that the fee has been increased to increase resources to protect and enhance tourism infrastructure. “There is not much budget coming from the union government for the development and protection of our infrastructure there,” she said. The meeting of the village executive has submitted this proposal to the village assembly and passed it, and we have also informed the relevant areas.
