Death toll from Venezuela earthquake rises, 1,430 confirmed dead

Agency. At least 1,430 people have been confirmed dead so far in the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Wednesday.

People are still searching for their loved ones and belongings in the rubble, trying to hear any sounds that might indicate whether anyone is alive under the rubble of concrete and iron.

Two earthquakes struck Venezuela within seconds of each other on Wednesday. One, a magnitude 7.5 quake, was one of the most powerful recorded in the country in more than a century.

The coastal state of La Guerra, located near the country’s capital, Caracas, is one of the areas most affected by these earthquakes.

The number of dead and injured is rising every hour. The United Nations estimates that nearly 50,000 people are missing.

Rescue teams in the country are limited, and while international rescue workers from Mexico, Spain, the United States and the UK have arrived to join the rescue and relief efforts, it is still not enough.
