Award of 100,000 dollars to US Nepali Media “Khasokhas”.

New York. Khasokhas, a community media outlet run for the Nepali community from New York, USA, has been awarded a press forward award of one hundred thousand dollars for filling a vacancy in local journalism.

Khasokhas has been awarded a national award with an amount of one hundred thousand dollars to further strengthen local Nepali journalism. Khasokhas received a prestigious grant award in its first phase from Press Forward, a national initiative to reimagine local news. Press Forward aims to close the gaps in news coverage in communities traditionally underserved by mainstream media.

‘We are incredibly proud to receive this grant award from Press Forward. This unconditional donation of $100,000 is not only a financial support for us, it is a testament to the dedication and efforts we have put in to address the critical coverage gap over the past 13 years,” said Kishore Panthi, editor-in-chief and publisher of Khasokhas.

Launched in 2012 as the first Nepali weekly newspaper in the US, Khasokhas has been at the forefront of covering issues affecting the Nepali community, from stories on immigration and the Nepali community to local news in Queens, New York and beyond. Khasokhas, which became completely digital after the Corona epidemic in 2020, has been publishing resources and investigative materials that connect the Nepali community with important information.

Press Forward is a national campaign run by the Miami Foundation to strengthen democracy by revitalizing local news and information in America. It is a national coalition investing more than $400 million to strengthen local newsrooms, close long-standing gaps in journalistic coverage, advance public policy to expand access to local news, and scale the infrastructure necessary for local journalism to thrive, including the Knight Foundation, the Lumina Foundation , including more than 60 prestigious and famous philanthropic organizations in America such as Ford Foundation, Democracy Fund.
