Suicide attack on passenger train in Pakistan, 23 killed, 53 injured
Islamabad: At least 23 people have been killed and 53 seriously injured in a suicide bomb attack targeting a passenger train near Chaman Gate in Quetta, Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
According to local media, the blast occurred as the train, packed with passengers, was passing through the Chaman Gate area. The explosion damaged some of the train’s coaches and caused widespread chaos at the scene.
Pakistani security forces, army and rescue teams reached the spot immediately after the incident. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals in Quetta for treatment. It is feared that the death toll may rise as the condition of some of the injured is critical.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the incident and said that the culprits will be brought to justice. Security challenges have been increasing in Balochistan in recent times, with attacks on trains, security posts and government structures becoming more frequent.
No group has yet formally claimed responsibility for the attack, but security forces have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
