Royalist protest in Kathmandu: 2 people including journalist Rajak lost their lives, 110 were injured, 14 places were set on fire

Kathmandu. Two people were killed, 110 injured and 14 arson attacks were reported on Friday as a demonstration by supporters of the former king turned violent.

The protest in the Tinkune area led by medical professional Durga Prasai has turned violent.

According to Kathmandu Police, a journalist and a protester have lost their lives. Sabin Maharjan, 29, and Suresh Rajak, both residents of Kirtipur Municipality-4, Kathmandu, were found dead at Marvel House in Tinkune.

The deceased, Rajak, is a journalist working for Avenues Television, while Maharjan was a participant in the protest. Maharjan was taken to the Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj in an injured condition, where he was declared dead at 4:05 pm.

53 Nepal Police and 22 Armed Police personnel were also injured during the protest. Meanwhile, the police have stated that 35 people were injured on the protestor side.

15 vehicles damaged, 14 places set on fire:

Police have stated that as the protest turned violent, protesters vandalized and set fire to 15 vehicles.

According to Kathmandu Police, a total of 15 vehicles, including nine government vehicles and six government and private vehicles, were damaged. There were also incidents of vandalism and arson during the protests.

Police have reported that 14 arson incidents resulted in vandalism at 9 institutions and offices. In addition, looting occurred along with vandalism at one.

According to the police, the following buildings were set on fire: Tinkune Annapurna Complex, Marvel House Tinkune, Koteshwor Mahadevsthan, Cargo compound, Koteshwor Chowk, government vehicles near Bhatbhateni, herbal production and processing center, Samajwadi Party office, corridor road from Balkumari to Kathmandu, across Baneshwor bridge, airport fountain, Indreni Cooperative office building in Sinamangal, Royal Restaurant in Sinamangal, and Aeromax office building in Sinamangal.

Similarly, the organizations and offices that were vandalized include Annapurna Media Network Tinkune, Kantipur Media House Baneshwor, KMC Hospital Sinamangal, the new building in front of DIA in Sinamangal, two police CCTVs in Sinamangal, the collapsed bridge in Police Station Sinamangal, Police Division Koteshwor, Traffic Police Force Koteshwor, and the Samajwadi Party Office Bagmati Corridor.

During the protests, looting also occurred at Bhatbhateni Supermarket in Koteshwor.

Human loss:

Death 2 (Sabin Maharjan, 29, of Kirtipur-4, Gamchha, was injured during a protest in Koteshwor and was declared dead at Maharajgunj Teaching Hospital at 16:05, Suresh Rajak was found dead at Marble House in Tinkune)
