US and India to launch Earth observation satellite
Los Angeles. NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) aim to launch a powerful Earth observation satellite in March 2025.
The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) will scan nearly all of Earth’s land and ice surfaces twice every 12 days to measure changes in the planet’s ecosystems, land and sea ice, and the Earth’s crust.
The Nisar satellite will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Center on the southeast coast of India.
According to NASA, Nisar’s observations will help researchers around the world better understand changes on the planet’s surface, including ice sheets, glaciers, and sea ice, which will benefit humanity.
It will also capture changes in the Earth’s forest and wetland ecosystems, as well as movements and deformations of the planet’s crust, such as earthquakes, landslides and volcanic activity. Xinhua
